Rhythm Section
Film piece created for the Girls Rock Louisville: Hall of Fame Showcase group exhibition at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft (KMAC), Louisville, KY.
Artist Statement:
“Rhythm Section” is a piece that gives a voice to people of marginalized genders in one. The audio collage consists of participant-submitted clips describing their unique qualities and strengths, and how these play into their gender, gender expression, and sexuality. For the visual portion, a second set of participants were given up to five minutes to experiment with a drum set, and prompted to express their gender through play. The concept was developed as a response to the way our culture often attempts to stifle and silence the voices of people of marginalized genders, as well as showcase the ever-expanding definition of gender."
